WITCHUNT

  • The Glitch 134 Lower Marsh London, England, SE1 7AE United Kingdom (map)

A women's football team. A World Cup win. A kiss.

A drama school in Barcelona. An exposé. A movement.

In recent years we have seen powerful men co-opting the concept of a 'witch hunt', a historical event that harmed women across the world, to victimise themselves against women's accusations of sexual violence perpetrated by them.

WITCHUNT explores two parallel but intertwined stories: that of a kiss from a (now former) Spanish Football Association president to a female player during the 2023 Women's World Cup, and that of a group of drama school students exposing multiple cases of sexual harassment and predatory behaviour by their teachers, sparking the ‘Jo També’, Catalonia's own iteration of the ‘Me Too’ movement.

Join us on this journey through Spain's feminist revolution, witch trials, and mystic folklore, and discover what happens when it's the witches' turn to go out on a hunt.

PRAISE FOR PREVIOUS WORK
- Audience Club (Papering Agency)
- *****
- Very good. Inventive non-linear narrative exploring the loss of information, women's voices and the gaps in Spanish history during and beyond the Civil War and Franco's death. The play explores the silence of a generation of women and why understanding that needs to inform today's feminism in Spain. Great! Go and see it.
